Death is for Quitters Extended...

FADE IN:
INT.                                 APARTMENT                               NIGHT

DETECTIVE BECKETT enters through the front door; she unclips her BADGE and HOLSTER and sets them on a TABLE by the door.

                                                                                                  CUT TO:

Beckett standing in front of open FRIDGE. She removes a BOTTLE of water and walks out of frame.

                                                                                                   CUT TO:

Beckett walks back into entry hall and looks through MAIL on side table.

Beckett sets down WATER BOTTLE and seems interested in a particular piece of MAIL.

Beckett quickly drops the piece of mail, grabs her GUN and spins around.

MAN
“Detective Beckett, don’t shoot! I need your help!”

Man reaches out with blood soaked hands.

BECKETT
“Who are—  You’ve been shot! By who?”

Beckett still has her weapon trained on the injured man.

MAN
“The men that murdered your mother, and they’re on their way here!”

SFX: POUNDING AT THE DOOR.
FADE OUT:

FADE IN:
INT.                                                    APARTMENT                              NIGHT

Beckett turns to face the door.

BECKETT
“Stay behind me!”

Beckett glances over her shoulder. The injured man is missing without a trace.

SFX: DOOR BANGING CONT.

BECKETT
“Who is it?!”

Beckett’s yell is met with a brief moment of silence and then a shotgun blast splits the door in half.

Beckett is thrown back, the wind knocked out of her.

As her vision fades and blurs a large, dark figure looms up over her.

BECKETT
“Mom! Mom?! Who are you?! Mom!”

SHADOW
“Kate! Kate! Stay with me Kate! I love you!”

BECKETT
“Castle?”

FADE OUT:

FADE IN:
INT.            HOSPITAL                        DAY

Beckett is lying in a hospital bed, connected to life support and pulsing tubes.

SFX: HOSPITAL TECH.

Castle, Esposito, Ryan, Alexis and Martha sit in the hospital room. Martha is asleep in a CHAIR, Ryan is playing with the slide on his SIDEARM, Alexis is asleep on Castle’s lap while he plays CARDS with Esposito.

CASTLE
“Did you hear that?”

ESPOSITO
“Hear what?”

CASTLE
“Sounded like my name.”

ESPOSITO
“Castle, you can’t try to side-track me, I know you have a losing hand.”

CASTLE
“No, shut up a second.”

BECKETT
(MUMBLING)
“Mom?! Mom?!”

Castle and Esposito jump to their feet, CARDS go flying and Alexis falls to the floor, startled. Ryan holsters his WEAPON and runs for the doctor.

Castle kneels next to the BED and gently takes Beckett’s hand.

CASTLE
“Kate, I’m here Kate.”

BECKETT
“Castle?”

CASTLE
“Yeah, I’m here.”

BECKETT
“Where’s mom?”

Castle and Esposito exchange looks across the bed.

Ryan and the doctor walk in. The doctor immediately examines Beckett and the machines she is hooked up to.

DOCTOR
“Morning detective. How are you feeling?”

BECKETT
“Ugh, what is going on? Where am I?

CASTLE
“Kate, you’re in the hospital. You were shot at Montgomery’s funeral.”

DOCTOR
“You need your rest. Everyone out now.”

Castle gently squeezes Beckett’s hand and the group heads for the door.

CUT TO:

Ryan is talking to a uniformed officer in the hall.

RYAN
“Do not leave this spot. Understood?”

Castle stops next to Ryan and the officer and gestures for his mother and daughter to continue down the hall.

CASTLE
“Don’t even go to the bathroom. Get me? If you leave for a moment, so help me, I will --”

RYAN
“Castle, he gets it. Don’t worry man. Come on, let’s go get some food.”

CASTLE
“Right, I could go for food.”
